21/03/2026: disorganised thoughts

hyacinth gone WOKE alert!! /s
i recently changed my pronouns from they/them to they/she/he. as you can probably tell from the previous post, i have been listening to lots of glass beach and classic j's side project 'you are an angel' (j is the lead singer). i've been repeating 'bedroom community' and 'kate said' and i realised i also like being referred to with she/her. i've never really been completely satisfied with just they/them; it always felt like something was missing. in the past i've tried using he/they or they/he, but it didn't feel right either. so now i came to they/she/he! i feel completely genderless, but also feminine, but also masculine.

2026 has genuinely been so good for new music!! first of all, as previously mentioned, the lead singer of one of my favourite bands released an incredible solo project! it's easily my aoty so far, and i'm considering rating it 100/100 (it's at 97/100 rn). midwest post death came out of nowhere for me, but i've been repeating their debut almost daily since it's release. i love the noisiness contrasted with the slower/instrumental songs like 'a night at her dorm'. yearning for more mwpd, i found out that the lead singer had a solo project called 'wait, what did you say?', so i listened to it and it's also so good!! it's less noisy, but still a very yummy album :3

this was gonna be longer but i forgot what to talk about

11/03/2026: bedroom community is the only song ever

alt title: my interpretation of "bedroom community" by glass beach

"here is is again, a heart of excitement in the form of a girl who hates her life as she sits alone on the floor of her bedroom, waiting for answers, wasting time
...
so she'll never leave her bedroom in this bedroom community!"

while nowadays, after reading some genius annotations, i know what a bedroom community actually is. however, before this, i interpreted it as a metaphor for the internet. just a bunch of people in their bedrooms, forming a community via undersea cables and servers in windowless offices. i like this interpretation more; while the original meaning can be kind of existential with the idea of being trapped in suburban hell, my interpretation is more reassuring. like yeah it sucks out there, but you can always find refuge in the bedroom community of the internet. obviously the internet sucks in many ways, and i don't mean to sound parasocial, but the inherent anonymity of the internet allows for a lot of shameless self-expression, free from the norms of society. being able to make up a persona that is the most pure form of you, that can't really be traced back to you by people you know who may stumble across it, is a very freeing experience.

in more modern times, the anonymity of the internet is starting to slip with verification laws and the cultural shift into normalising putting your full name and face onto social media platforms. this sucks, and i'm very happy i can be my truest self in this digital bedroom, and that many others can be themselves on their websites :3

in conclusion and summary, to me, this song is about being the transest, gayest, truest version of myself on the internet and in my bedroom, while diluting that person whenever i leave my safe little bubble. i'm not sure if i'll ever be able to truely be myself outside my bedroom, but hopefully one day. hopefully one day i'll walk out my door without someone else's face on.

ty for reading, i hope you have a wonderful day ^_^
